Globalization

All kinds of documents are worth being translated into as many languages as possible. Wikis, software documentation, novels, blog posts, etc.

Different tools are around to aid translations. However, the most commonly used tool for localizations are gettext message catalogs. While the GNU gettext utilities are a valid choice to work with the catalogs, software like babel is sometimes more appropriate, depending on the context.

Internationalization (i18n)

Internationalization is the design and development of a product, application or document content that enables easy localization for target audiences that vary in culture, region, or language.1

Localization (l10n)

Localization refers to the adaptation of a product, application or document content to meet the language, cultural and other requirements of a specific target market (a locale).1
